Leheriya - Rajasthan

Fabrics with colourful diagonal or chevron striped patterns, developed through resist dyeing are known as leheriyas. It's a technique that is unique to the Indian state of Rajasthan. The local women artisans, who are called Bhandheres, create these beautiful fabric designs.

To eliminate starch and other impurities, the fabric is soaked overnight and even boiled if necessary. Leheriya's distinctive stripe and chevron designs are achieved using a process of folding or rolling the fabric before tying it.
